"Take me from my home, and I will sail to the stars of your empire. I will serve as a son must serve. But let Colchis stand as I have shaped it: a planet of peace and prosperity."

— Attributed to Larger Aurelian, Primarch of the Word Bearers, inscribed upon a golden plaque that hung from the immense doors leading into the Spiral Temple of the Covenant in Vharadesh

This has to be one of my favourite sculpts from the entire Horus Heresy range. It is, in my humble opinion, one of the most underrated sculpts, and requires an accomplished skill set to get the best from the model.  I painted this miniature when it first came out with the under glow and sinners red armour (I believe I was the first to do so) to neatly sidestep the problem we encounter when trying to paint the Primarch's golden skin.

The facial tattoos were a homage to Bohun's imperious work on this piece. A true masterwok that you should check out.

If you'd like to create under glow effects like this I explained the process in the Erebus seminar:

Here are a couple of screensavers for you (I wanted one for my phone, so I thought I'd post it up). Feel free to use them for personal use:

Rogal Dorn, the last wall, as indomitable a figure in Imperial history as any other. The statuesque sculpt encapsulates his personality, his role in the wider Imperium perfectly. This is a commission piece for a client that requested I recreate the original scheme. I was lucky enough to paint a non-metallic metal and a true metallic version, which was filmed start to finish in 4K.

These will be available via the patreon shortly with a PDF.

Constantin Valdor, First of the Ten Thousand, Captain General of the Legio Custodes. Golden Man.

When you think of the Heresy a few notable events and characters spring to my mind. Sigismund, Sanguinius, Horus of course, and Valdor. This is a piece I've been waiting for since Forgeworld released Angron and announced they would be covering the epoch. This miniature does not disappoint.

A beautiful sculpt, one that I'm eagerly wanting to add to my own collection.

If you would like to learn how I painted this miniature, from the skin tones to texturing the golden armour and the base, why not consider becoming a patron? You get access to the full 4K HD tutorial, a PDF tutorial on Custodes, all previous videos, seminars and PDF's, for less than a pizza!

An indomitable warrior whose strength in battle was tempered by the depth of his wisdom, Vulkan was sire to the Salamanders Legion and its paragon. In war, his fury was a match for any of his brothers, and yet was ever mastered by a keen understanding for the destruction he caused and the power and dread responsibility he and his Legion carried as Angels of Death. In all his undertakings Vulkan ever sought to limit needless and wanton destruction, seeing in that a path to ruin and desolation of the soul, shouldering whatever hardship this might bring him or his sons without complaint and absorbing the wisdom such suffering brought, allowing it to forge him into an ever better protector for the growing Imperium. But like the fires of the deep earth, that wellspring of savage power slept but was never extinguished, to be called on when needed, as implacable and devastating as the fires of the turbulent world he called home.

Master of the Space Wolves Legion and Lord of icy Death World of Fenris, Leman Russ was an incomparable warlord, ferocious beyond measure and faultlessly loyal to the Emperor and his Imperium. Known as the Wolf King and the Lord of Winter and Ruin, as undoubtedly as savage as Leman Russ was, he was also wise beyond his Legion’s barbaric appearances and self-aware to a degree few guessed at, which made him doubly dangerous.

At Prospero his loyalty and foresight were used against him by the machinations of Horus, as he was loosed upon his brother Magnus. What was to follow was one of the darkest hours of the Imperium’s history, as Space Marine was set against Space Marine in war unto the death. The Burning of Prospero was a conflict eclipsed only by the nightmare civil war that came after.
Fighting with a ferocity and skill far beyond anything human, Leman Russ wields the sword of Balenight, known as Mjalnar, an ancient blade whose dark legend stretched back to the Age of Strife; and Helwinter, Russ’ great frost axe, its murderous edge made with the kraken-teeth of a mighty beast Russ slew himself. His warplate is a suit of singular artificer power armour, incorporating unique exothermic field generators, otherwise unknown of in the Imperium’s arsenal of technology.
