7th Company Squads Praxis and Vaalen 'Executioners of Praal'
Pict Capture Istvaan V

The Executioners of Praal are so named after an ancient Nostroman Legend where the supernatural firgure of Praal steals the children of the poor and feeds them at banquets for the rich. Although the meaning of the fairy tale eludes current scholars, deprived as we are of the context in which the story was told, it nonetheless serves as a reminder of the unsavoury conditions that the people Nostromo cultivated.

These pict captures are time logged at the end of the Istvaan Masacare, squads Praxis and Vaalen acting to mop up any lingering resistance and execute any survivors. The Night Lords were never noted for their discipline of dress, displaying a varied array of styles and personal iconography.

Throughout the warriors we see instances taking memento's from the dead. It bears noting here that such practices were long established even before the Legion's betrayal and show no special reverence for those the Night Lords once called brother.

The Heraldic skull design is of unknown significance. Possibly cult markings or more likely gang affiliation.

These miniatures were painted as part of a larger Night Lord's force. With the release of Massacre I hope to be painting Night Lord's for many years to come.

The blue was created by blending Regal Blue into black. The lightning bolt motif and skull pattern helm's were painted very carefully with a stub nose brush allowing greater control of the final result. I used VMC's brass for the shoulder pads, alternating between painting a single, both or neither pauldrons to help break up the unit.

Games Workshop has some beautiful models in its repertoire and I have spent many an evening debating the merits of each line. For my money the Dark Eldar are the best, but now I fear our conversations will be even more heated with the Emperor's Children line fleshing out. These models are spectacular and the Phoenix Guard Terminators look set to be the jewel in the crown.

I painted these models in a cooler tone normally associated with Emperor's Children. I dislike the reddish tones I normally see, preferring a more regal, imperious hue. I used a regal blue for shading and painted the gold in equally cold tones. Protions of the Palatine Blade's armour has been plated with platinum as a nod to the detail given in the Horus Heresy Book 1.

I'm broke...

This makes Dark Elves the best miniature range in the Fantasy game.

Wow.

This model was painted up for a charity auction Help the Heroes in conjunction with Dreamlike Gaming

Typhus is a subject I always wanted to tackle, but I didn't want to paint him in the same drab greens I have seen elsewhere. This model was undercoated with white primer - something of a novelty for me as I tend to use a zenithal base to give more contrast to the finished piece. Whenever I have used a white base I find the finished piece to be lacking something, I never feel that I quite finish the model. However this was a nice departure from my usual routine, one which I will be repeating in the future.

Typhus was painted with an eye on the old Deathguard theme of off white. I thought of curdled milk when laying down the initial layers. The brown at its very deepest was mixed with scab red. For the metallics I blended green and blue into the shadows to contrast with the warm armour. The base was constructed with cork base, the plastic from ear buds and UHU glue.
