I decided to take a walk around the colour wheel with this model. The client sent a wonderful picture of a kingfisher in mid flight, with a plumage that ran the course from purple to yellow. It is easy to confuse the eye when using multiple colours on a piece, following the example found in nature gave a reassuring skeleton to the paint job that I could build on.

If you would like to learn more about applying colour theory to a model why not get private tutelage?

  1. Okay, hands down that is one of your best pieces to date. Way to take a very tough color palette and make it shine!

  2. Zab is absolutely right. As a huge fan of your art I know there are these online-live-lessons. But don't you think a tutorial to this guy would be great on your blog ;)
