What a wonderful model this is. Israel (the sculptor) is a god damn superstar already. This just oozes confidence. The armour feel substantial and looks like it is covering a gene enhanced body. It may sound trifling, but the knives on the hip stand out on the model and aren't sunk into the armour. I mean, the guy made a thunder hammer look elegant! Imagine this guy's take on a Primarch? Salivating.

I've recently acquired a new compressor to travel to shows with and a new airbrush to help with bulk undercoat jobs. My go to website for airbrush stuff has just launched the new Sparmax range (that I'll be reviewing in the future, but as a quick recommendation, you can't get a quieter, more powerful, easy to use airbrush set for under £200 - it's the bees knees) that was perfect and I decided to paint the entire model with my shine new toys. Although it is a .3 needle I found it responsive enough to do some fine highlighting. The entire model was given a basic airbrush layer with the Sparmax MAX - 3
using the Sparmax ARISM compressor. From there I finished it off with brush work to produce Eidolon. I've taken step by step photographs of this to show you how the armour was painted.

A stunning model that was a joy to work with from start to finish.

Emperor's Children Legion Praetor

Legion Praetor Vercinretorix The Flawed Fourth Millenial, Emperor's Children Legion

Born of one of Pre-Imperial Terra's ruling castes the boy that would become known as Verinretorix was gene forged to be a general. In embryo the genetic destiny of this man would be one of war and blood shed but on a scale greater than his master could have imagined. Too young to fight against the all conquering Thunder Warriors, Vercinretorix was drafted into the Astrates program to produce a second generation of Warriors capable to conquering a Galaxy. 

The boy had not difficulties adjusting to his new legacy and established a reputation of careful planning with swift execution. He was at the forefront of the fledgling legions command until Fulgrim was installed at the head. Vercinretorix had a frosty relationship with his gene father. The Primarch felt that the Praetor, while undoubtably a reliable general, was not a talented one. Vercinretorix was not prone to flashes of inspiration or appreciative of the mutability of circumstance that his brother were. It was felt within legion command that the Praetor was a flawed being, the divine spark inherent within humanity had been engineered out. Vercinretorix was posted to hold Genna, an agricultural world conquered by the legion in tandem with the Luna Wolves. No further record exists of Vercinretorix's deeds from then on. 

Vercinretorix is here depicted at the Vanguard of the Genna Cleansing. Upon his waist sits the Eye of Terra, an honourific gifted to him by Hastur Sejanus for services rendered unto the Imperium. Horus would gift such honourifics freely to the members of other legions, reinforcing bonds of brotherhood in a disparate military organisation that spanned the length and breadth of the Milky Way.

The Phoenician Fulgrim, Primarch of the Emperor's Children, Third Legion by Forge World

“I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 60,000 years ago.”

Fulgrim's character is one of intense darkness and light. On the one hand he is the most idealistic (although Lorgar may disagree) of the Emperor's sons, striving for the perfection he believes humanity is capable of. His legion bore that responsibility until its disintegration, where each soldier chose what his personal ideal of perfection would be rather than the prescribed divinity of the Emperor. 

I wanted to reflect this duality in the painting and modeling of the miniature. I painted Frulgrim in pristine armour, untroubled by the dirt and battle around him. He is above such things. The gold is a good foil to the purple armour. I decicded to paint the inside of Fulgrims cloak cream to further highlight the rich purple of the Emperor's Chidlren Livery. I changed Fulgrim's position of the base, putting him in a more central position. I couldn't imagine Fulgrim being content on the periphery of any scene, he dominates the centre stage. 

This is the second Fulgrim I have painted, the first being a private conversion commission. I have painted this for a collector alongside Ferrus Manus (seen in the last picture). My version was heavily inspired by the redoubtable Warmaster Painting Fulgrim which can be found here.
