Why So Serious? The Joker Gang Necromunda/ Inquisimunda warband4

The Joker Gang in all it's vainglory. It's only the start but I wanted a group shot at this early stage. 

My dream is to have a 40K gang modelled up after each Batman villain. I've drawn up a list of things that I think would work.

Batman - solo Syprer. Games master design to equal gangs. 
Commissioner Gordon - arbites. Games master design is equal gangs. 

The joker gang - the jester. Cawdor Harley Quinn 
Bane - house Goliath/ pit slave
The riddler gang - Delaque
The penguin - xenos kroot. Human psyker with affinity for birds. 
Mr freeze - mechanicus (freezes subjects for testing) 
Killer croc - mutie
Two face - mutie/ inquisition? 
Poison ivy - inquisition? Rogue trader? Pirate? Psyker to control biology 
Scarecrow - drug dealing pirate? 
Cat woman - hired gun 
Night wing - hired gun
Robin - hired gun   

What you think? Batman and arbites are there to handle gangs who get to far ahead of others.

Why So Serious? The Joker Necromunda/ Inquisimunda Gang Leader.

The man himself; The Joker, Necromunda Gang leader. 

Don't ask him how he got his scars. Some say it's torture, but from the Inquisition, or the Xenos invaders, who knows? Did he do it to himself? Were they a mark of tribal allegiance to a Guard regiment? Don't ask him, the answer will be different every time and you'll end up with a smile too. 

I wanted to model and paint the model in the likeness of Heath Ledger's Joker. However with such a large area of cloak to play with I wanted some kind of freehand. If I were to ever collect Harlequins, I would paint the chequered pattern like this. 

It's not clear from the photographs but he is holding a card in his right hand with a joker painted on it.  The head is completely sculpted from scratch.

Why so Serious? Lune & Tick Joker Goon

These are psychic mal-clones (purpose designed malformed clones of rich nobles - fashion items without no military applications.) made from the old familiars from the Warhammer line. If you look up some of the really ancient artwork from Confrontation (the predecessor to Necromunda) you can see these really bizarre small malformed people following nobles about. I don't think its ever explained what they are exactly - mutants, vat grown children, psychic spoors? I wanted something like that for my gang. Although the psychic mal-clones are the sole province of the rich and are uniquely attuned to their owners, the Joker is a resourceful fella and has these little sprites follow him around. 

I imagine as they grow they will start to break down quickly since they have been severed fro mother original master. However they will gain some random psychic abilities that become more and more unstable. Again the Necromunda rules don't accommodate for this, but we can adapt the rules from a cool story can't we?

Why So Serious? Harley Quinn Necromunda/ Inquisimunda ganger

One of the main characters, Harley Quinn the fallen Sister Repentia. When thinking of the gang I didn't want a direct port over from the Batman universe, I wanted these guys to have a distinctly 40K flavour. 

Neromunda Prime has been left devastated by an invasion. Necromunda Seconds and Quintus are gone. Whole swathes of the Hive are left emptied and lifeless. Cracks have appeared in the Hive wall itself baring living quarters to the hostile elements of the world. The Imperium in their haste to withdraw from the planet has left caches of weaponry, aid, food, munitions and war material. House Helmawr has been decimated leaving a power vacuum.  No one knows whether the Imperium won or not. No one know who the enemy were. 

Harely Quinn is an example of the kinds of war material left abandoned on the planet. The Joker recognised the savagery she possessed and put her to work. Although mute Harley Quinn has one eye that shines with the innocence of a child. 

Ok that last sentence is  little flowery, but I had a strong image of the heavy asking Harley Quinn if she was hurt, or something just as insane after a fire fight. She's sitting next to a family she has just butchered entranced by this piece of yellow silk with a heart printed on it. Her one crystal blue eye peeks out from a hood of redemption red, with all the inquisitive innocence of a child. 

I'm not sure how I should run her in a gang, and I'm not sure how to buy an evicerator for her. But to hell with that. She looks badass.

The third goon in my Necromunda collection. This is a regular ganger rather than a Juve. This has to be one of my favourite sculpts from the old sets. I wanted to paint him in brighter colours that have faded over time, with a slightly warmer skin tone. The green hair ties him with the rest of the gang. I couldn't help but give him cross eyes too.

His nickname 'Hump' wasn't given to him because of the growth on his back, but rather because of his enjoyment of the physical act of love. Dude loves to get down and dirty.

The second goon in my Joker Gang (when creating a gang roster I wrote down the name of the gang as "The Jesters" to avoid copyright infringement. But why the hell should I be worried about that? Like DC are going to sue me over this, or force me to destroy the models.)

A couple of touches to look out for - her spiderweb tattoo over her eye and the "HA, HA, Ha on her shoulder guard. I used a strong red and black combination to echo Harley Quinn's scheme.

Hello and welcome all to a special little personal project of mine. I find that I have to work on some of my own stuff in between commissions to freshen up the palette. I was fortunate to play Necromunda when the boxed set was first released (I even played a campaign weekend in a Games Workshop store - can you imagine doing that today?) Although the gangs each have their appeal I don't feel happy with my collection until I've put my personal stamp on things. the customisation of models along a theme or a story is something that really invigorates me as a hobbyist. 

The Dark Knight is one of my favourite films. The opening scene has to be one of the most effective character introductions in film history. Seeing the Joker as a bat shit crazy anarchist was terrifying for me in a way that lingers long after the film is over. What could be cooler than creating a Joker themed gang for Necromunda? 

The goon masks would allow me to pick and choose models from across the range that I like and fits the equipment list. This goon was my first trail run at making this work. The mask is sculpted on top of his face. I removed the sash thing that hangs between his legs and painted the legs as if they were worn jeans. These models offer a wonderful opportunity to play with different textures. Leather, jean, cloth as well as the broken polluted bases makes this an inspiring project to work on.
