Betrayed by Fulgrim, the errant House Vyridion shed their previous sea green livery in favour for the purer black and gold of imperial majesty. No gaudy sigils of self aggrandisement, the House instead wore the Imperial Aquila, reaffirming fidelity to the Master of Mankind.

This is a much bigger kit than you may initially think. It's a mini knight Titan (the guns are bigger than a plastic dreadnought). Making large surface areas like this interesting is challenging, especially the gold plates, but with overlapping contrasting colours you can achieve a depth of interest that you typically wouldn't be able to achieve using a brown wash.

The knight's paint scheme was inspired by Master of Mankind  House Vyridion. The simple black and gold marks with Imperial Aquila's was made so much easier using the Custodes transfer sheet.

There was a Legend on Ancient Medusa, of a coterie of warriors bid to protect the Vanadium Vault. Who bound them to this task and what they protect is subject to dark legend. These are cold, inert monsters from a lost age tasked never to awaken until the apocalypse of Old Night falls over mankind once more. The coming of Ferrus Manus brought about the reactivation of the Knights and they strode once more across the planet in vengeance.

This is the first part of a full Knight House painted to be a part of the Iron X. The client specifically wanted a dark monotone paint job with battle damage and the signs of wear and tear. I went with a a red weathering powder add interest to the armour.

Painting up a Knight titan maniple in service to the dreaded Deathguard gave me a huge opportunity  to stretch out my weathering legs and have a good run around. The main body of the armour has been given a rusted worn look by using a combination of hairspray chipping, sponge chipping and good old fashioned brush work. All this complimented with weathering powder gives the effect of an aged vehicle that has stood on a hundred worlds.

The freehand images are in line with  Deathguard iconography. The deaths head, the reaper, the eagle's bone lying on rotted green field all harken back to the rot of Father Nurgle.

I must admit, the Freeblade app has got me really pumped for knights. Shall we have a week of nothing but knights? That should start off 2016 on the right foot.
