The Bastiladon is a really nice kit. Squat, uncompromising and sporting a nifty lazer beam in it's back, I knew I needed to paint up this model when I saw it. 

I was heavily influenced by 'Eavy metal team's paint jobs. Taking these as a starting point I delved further into researching dinosaurs (especially the Ankylosaurus), exotic lizards and crocodiles. I wanted a bright, vibrant model, but I also wanted to achieve a realistic result. I decided early on that the Carapace would need more detailing. I toyed with the idea of using a dremel tool to create a rough texture but I wasn't sure what kind of result this would create. 

Undercoating the miniature white, I layered a bright yellow to create a consistent finish, then shaded the model with orange and red. I streaked the carapace to create a muted change in the colour in preparation for the next stage. I sprayed the carapace with a heavy coat of hair spray then used a highly diluted solution of dark green paint through an airbursh. The paint should pool and create a very realistic appearance on the markings. 

I painted the ark as if it were charging with energy. The white lines were created with a white oil wash.

The model was finished with a flourish of tropical fauna.

Welcome to the Jungle. New Lizardmen Bastiladon, Carnosaur and Skink Priest

It's easy to fall in love a little with the new Lzardmen models. Who isn't infatuated at some time in their life by Dinosaurs? Who hasn't had the secret fantasy of riding one?

Kroq-Gar and Grim-Loq was a really easy model to assemble and painting it was a joy. The sculpt is really strong and dynamic. I toyed with the idea of painting Grim-Loq blue, but such a feral predatory, apex predator needs bold red markings. I used red shaded with a dark blue to create contrast on the skin, blending the two together until satisfied.

The Bastiladon is an utterly charming kit. I wanted to paint the carapace of the creature as realistically as I could. I took inspiration from the fantastic job the 'Eavy metal team did with the studio's Bastiladon kit. I also thoroughly researched dinosaur markings as well as lizards and reptiles. I wanted the solar engine to look like it was charging full of energy, ready to unleash upon the Enemies of Lustira. Instead of shading the recesses of the Glyphs Icarefully painted them white.

The Skink Priest is by far my favourite release from the new Lizardmen. The little blighter has a lot of character. Again, I was so impressed with the 'Eavy Metal teams job I decided to copy it as closely as I could.

I finished all these off with aquatic plants I bought at a pets store. The added height of the larger leaves give the impression that these beats are wading through a dense jungle to surprise unwary prey.

An examination of the attitudes toward empire in the Pre Crusade Era

Throughout Human history man has strived for Empire. Human civilization is the story of the conflict between civilizing culture and regressive barbarity. Predicated upon prevalent ideals of the time, a culture will inevitably seek to test its philosophy in the most extreme of circumstances; war…

Another W.I.P shot of the Luna Wolves commission i'm working on. I've been brushing up on my ancient history in an attempt to answer 'what kind of Empire was the Emperor trying to create?" I've concentrated my studies around the figure of Pericles as I believe this character in history encapsulates the hope of Empire, shying away from the more unsavory aspects of it. 

In other news, I'm running a promotional give away for a High Elf anointed of Asryan. Once 500 likes have been hit I will give it away to a random sharer. Killer Croc Commission by Knight Miniatures

An absolute beast of a kit. Killer Croc has so much heft I'm sure you could use it as a murder weapon. Part of a much larger Batman commission.

I've been saving this one. I saved painting the joker until the end of this particular commission and relished coloring this wonderful miniature once I finally got around to him. There are very few characters in popular culture that have so transfixed me as The Joker. I'd describe this miniature as a run down 'gold age' version of The Joker; an Arkham asylum video game depiction. Given the various versions of the Dark knight sculpted by the Knight models team, my hope is that Heath Ledger's seminal version of this character will be captured in metal.

Commission; Tau Riptide Conversion "A better head, a better tomorrow"

A client contacted me to create a Tau Riptide suit with fully magnetized options and a custom head. The tiny head present on the current Riptide suit can chide considering the bulk of the rest of the suit. Using parts present on the kit I created this alternative, multi sensor enabled head piece. 

The model received the usual treatment of oil washes, varnish and dullcote (heavy weathering was not a concern). This model is now happily plying it's deadly trade in it's new home.
